There are over 80 types of autoimmune diseases and can affect any part of your body. For example, an autoimmune disease of the skin, alopecia areata leads to hair loss. Liver gets affected with autoimmune hepatitis. Pancreas gets affected in type 1 diabetes. Your body parts such as joints, lungs and eyes get affected in rheumatoid arthritis.

Causes of Autoimmune Diseases

The reason behind autoimmune diseases is unknown. But it is not viral and can’t be passed from one person to other.

Autoimmune diseases can be genetic means that certain genes can make some people highly potential to develop this problem. If you already have the genes for autoimmune disease, certain chemicals, viruses and other things may trigger it.

Symptoms of Autoimmune Diseases

Autoimmune disease symptoms are based on your affected body part. Swelling, redness, pain and heat are the common causes of autoimmune diseases but also are the signs of inflammation.

Autoimmune disease symptoms can come and go. When you are affected with the disease, your symptoms might get serious for some time. Later on, the symptoms may get better or disappear for some time.
